What a weekend for the Eagles! Santa Margarita Catholic High School’s Robotics Team 5805 made an incredible run at the Southern California Showdown in El Segundo, finishing as finalists after going head-to-head with 42 of the top robotics teams in the region.
The three-day competition was filled with practice rounds, qualification matches, and final alliance battles, pushing every team to their limits. But SMCHS Robotics rose to the challenge, showing off their creativity, technical skill, and teamwork every step of the way.
“This year, our team members stepped up in those difficult moments, delivering a complete, high-performing robot that conquered SoCal Showdown,” said Coach Teddy Bullockus. “Despite a tough qualification schedule, they persevered, joined one of the top-seeded alliances, and finished strong as finalists. It’s a great accomplishment for these future engineers, and the road ahead has never looked brighter.”
This season marked an especially exciting milestone for SMCHS, as this is the first-ever Pre-Season FRC Competition in the school’s history. From long weekend build sessions to late-night coding marathons, Team 5805 poured their hearts into their robot, balancing robotics with classes, sports, and even music rehearsals. Their dedication paid off in a big way.
Of course, none of it would have been possible without the team’s support network. Parents, friends, and volunteers kept everything running smoothly through organizing, chaperoning, providing lunches, and cheering from the sidelines. Their efforts made it possible for every team member to focus, learn, and shine.
“This season wasn’t without challenges,” said Coach Alexander Klatt, “but the team never stopped pushing forward. Their patience, creativity, and passion to win are simply remarkable. As I always say on the field—‘Let’s fly high, Eagles!’”
Team 5805 also shared their gratitude for their sponsors, Santa Margarita Catholic High School and Fabworks, whose support allows them to compete at such a high level.
The SoCal Showdown was more than just a competition; it was a moment that brought the community together and reminded everyone what teamwork and determination can achieve.
Congratulations to Team 5805 for proving once again that Eagles don’t just fly, they soar!
