Super Bowl 60 was set at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Before the game, the Seahawks were favored to win with a 4.5-point favorite over the Patriots. Both teams had impeccable defense all year, so going in everyone knew it was going to be a low scoring game. Drake Maye and the Patriots had been questioned and commented on all year, with people saying they were not as good as they looked. Fans said they had “the easiest schedule in the NFL” and would be tested in the Super Bowl. The Seahawks, however, had good strength to their schedule which later would help them in the big game.
Before the game there were big performances by artists like Green Day, Coco Jones, and Charlie Puth. It helped set the tone for the game. As the game opened, it proved to be a defensive battle with no touchdowns. The Seahawks defense completely shut out New England, not allowing them to get a single point. The Seattle offense was carried by running back, Kenneth Walker iii and kicker, Jason Myers who helped get 9 points on the board. Both teams offensive line struggled throughout against relentless blitzes and pass rushers.
The halftime performance by Bad Bunny was super lively with features from Ricky Martin, Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Jessica Alba, Pedro Pascal, Alix Earle, Karol G, and many others. He performed some of his biggest songs including Titi Me Pregunto and DTMF.
Moving into the second half, the Patriots opened with three three and outs and capped it off with Drake Maye getting sacked that turned into a fumble. Sam Darnold was then able to guide the Seahawks into field goal range once again, and Myers knocked down the field goal to extend their lead to 12-0. In the 4th quarter Darnold made a beautiful pass to AJ Barner for the score. The Patriots answered right away with a touchdown from Maye to Mack Hollins. When Maye got the ball back though, he threw an interception that led to another Seattle field goal, pushing the lead to 22-7. Maye then lost another fumble, which Uchenna Nwosu returned for a touchdown that ultimately sealed the win for the Seahawks with four minutes remaining and extended the lead to 29-7. Even though New England scored on the following play, they failed to convert an onside kick attempt and Seattle began to celebrate, with the game coming to an end.
Overall, the Patriots were truly tested in this game, and it highlighted the weaknesses they need to fix over this offseason. The Seahawks had some struggles but were ultimately able to come out on top with key players like Kenneth Walker iii, the MVP of the game, Jason Myers, and defense as a whole.
