Girls tennis thrives through the heat in Fresno
The absence of the Varsity girls tennis team at the Fall sports rally was noticed. However, it is because they traveled to Fresno, CA, from Sept. 8th to Sept. 10th. They finished second in the traveling tournament.
This tournament hit right in the middle of the heat waves in CA. According to Imogen Wodtke, a Sophomore on the team, the team was barely distracted from their goals.
“We were always in the zone and having fun,” Wodtke said. “I think that translated really well to our matches because we were kind of relaxed and upbeat so they went really well.”
The team beat Liberty High School and Garces High School, both with scores of four to two. They tied with Palos Verdes, losing by one set. Wodtke reflects that due to the amount of time the team spent together off the tennis court, they came together to be able to be on the same wavelength and work as a team.
Wodtke shares photos and videos of the team in the car, at the matches, and at the hotel, all getting ready to represent the Eagle tennis program at a time when the heat could cause a disadvantage. However, as Wodtke describes, that didn’t deter the team at all.
“I’m super proud of the team,” Wodtke said. “Everyone had a great time, and with our success by the end of the tournament, we were all super proud of ourselves and each other.”
