(L-R) Juniors Bridget Callahan, Lara Adra, Daniella Kubiak and Kathryn Luher are all smiles for science as they take charge of SEE and raise money for local schools in need of science equipment.

The beakers, the chemicals, the dissection tools and everything else students use in the science lab seem so rudimentary. Doesn’t everyone have them? No, not necessarily.

Junior Daniella Kubiak started SEE (Science Equipment for Everyone) this year to raise awareness and money for schools with no science equipment.

“Ever since I was a child, I loved science,” Kubiak said. “My elementary school in Laguna Niguel could never afford science equipment. I want this to be a fundraiser for schools.”

Kubiak is joined by juniors Lara Adra, Kathryn Luher and Bridget Callahan, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, respectively to help her and the cause. Together, they plan to fundraise and donate to local schools, like George White, that can’t afford the science equipment.

“As vice president, I hope to be responsible and organized in keeping the promise we made with the schools who cannot afford science equipment,” Adra said. “I wanted to get involved with this cause because I think it is very important for everyone to be provided with the same learning facilities that make learning a good experience.”

The club’s first meeting was held on Thursday. SEE is planning fundraisers and other ideas. They want to hold bake sales, class competitions and even sell t-shirts to help out the cause.

“We have a few fundraisers at school planned,” Luher said. “One is coming up around Halloween and the other will take place in spring.”

While many of SMCHS clubs fundraise and raise awareness for international issues and problems SEE will the focus closer to home.

“They are all big problems,” Kubiak said. “But they overlook people that are in need right in our own community.”

She hopes that her club members will focus more on the pressing matters that are closer to home. She also encourages Eagles to get involved and help out others that aren’t as fortunate as SMCHS students.

“I want students to know that this club is a great opportunity to show students that it’s really fun to give back to the community,” Luher said.

It is also a great way to get involved with the local community, gain experience, and meet new people.

“I would like to get many people involved and make this process a fun experience for everyone in the club, and the kids receiving the equipment,” Adra said.

The SEE club members are hoping to make this a fun and efficient way to show Charitas Christi to students outside the SMCHS student body.

“It is really important even if students are not interested in science,” Callahan said. “We should support kids and what they love.”

To get things started, the club is trying to make it obligatory that each member donates at least five dollars. This way, SEE can begin to donate and give to the schools.

“As of now we are trying to make it mandatory, so that we are keeping the promise to the schools we made,” Adra said.

SEE’s next meeting isn’t officially scheduled, but keep a look out for an upcoming announcement.
