Competitive dodgeball and kickball tournaments, pep rally competitions, students from different grade levels rise up to compete to take home the title for their grade. With the whole school watching and cheering each other on and school spirit raging throughout the campus. ASB has created a new way for students to compete against one another to earn points and receive a class victory this year. This game is called Clash of the Classes. ASB president, Claire Crafts, has been involved in this project since the beginning.

“When we were looking at this upcoming school year we wanted to find a way that would unify class attendance at all the events and basically bring about class school spirit alongside of school spirit,” said Crafts.

ASB used models from many schools that have already implemented these events. Through further research, the school was able to use the 5-Star app that would allow for easy tracking of points for each class.

Different events on campus have already taken place to bring the school together and raise spirit such as three v. three basketball games, kickball, and dodgeball. Students log into the 5- star app to check-in while they are at these events to receive points for their class.

“A lot of the points for clashes of classes can come from events that have been around for a long time such as football games, basketball games, comedy sports, theater and choir events all give students the opportunity to earn points,” Crafts said.

Although the Clash of Clashes is still in its beginning stages, Crafts feels that it brings the student body together. Although students have trouble adjusting to the 5-Star app, Crafts hopes it will grow in years to come.

“We are actually getting a lot of attendance at the school events, but students just aren’t checking in.” said Crafts, “We are working on more promotions on social media and around campus.”

In terms of points the senior class is outdoing all the other grades, but there is still opportunities to earn points. The winner of the clash of classes will receive free dress along with food trucks for a week.

“It’s really cool to see ASB come together and pull off an event like this, and get our student body involved in the cool and raise school spirit,” said Crafts.
