The second you go online, it seems like its impossible to escape the Internet’s new favorite dessert: Dubai Chocolate. It first gained popularity via TikTok and has since gained major virality.
The outer layer is typically made of milk chocolate and the middle filled with pistachio cream, tahini and crunchy knafeh pastry. It was originally launched by FIX Dessert Chocolatier in 2022 according to BBC News. Now, many chocolate companies like Lindt and Ulker have jumped on the trend and created their own versions. Large Brands like Shake Shack have even created milkshakes based on the famous chocolate.
One chocolate bar typically runs for around 10-15$ making it a pricier option. So why is it so expensive? Most ingredients are shipped overseas and the ingredients take lots of labor to make. This has led to an international shortage of pistachio and worldwide stockout’s of Dubai Chocolate according to multiple sources including the Guardian, Coffee intelligence and Delish.
So is Dubai chocolate worth the hefty price tag? Personally, I would say yes. I’ve tried multiple versions of this chocolate including the Dubai Chocolate Brownie at Crumbl, Dubai Chocolate Lindt, and the homemade version from my neighbor. It checks all the boxes of being a great treat without being overwhelmly sweet. In all, this is not a trend to skip and is a fun way to appreciate Dubai culture.
