Hi my name is Kelly Lu. I’m a junior but I started screenwriting back in freshman year because it looked really interesting to me. I knew it was going to be a class that I enjoyed. It’s helpful to my development as a writer because the class gives you a lot of freedom. You can explore any kind of genre you want to as long as it’s within a screenplay format. The teacher gives you a lot of help and attention you wouldn’t have gotten otherwise. If you are taking a vigorous academic path I would definitely advise you to consider screenwriting. It really improved my writing skills as I found out what I liked and didn’t like to write about. I developed close bonds with my classmates and my screenwriting teacher. Honestly if you’re good at writing screenplays it opens a lot of opportunities for you. Especially if in the future if that’s something you want to pursue.
