SM students rank their top 5 favorite holiday movies
The Christmas countdown is finally here, bringing Christmas movies and music during the festive month of December. Based on America’s popular ranked movies, the SM community shares our top 5 favorite Christmas films:
1.”Home Alone (1990)”- 35.7%
When the McCallister family leaves for a family Christmas vacation, eight-year-old Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) is accidentally left behind. With two robbers Marv (Daniel Stern) and Harry (Joe Pesci) lurking in his neighborhood, Kevin learns how to fend for himself through setting a series of traps.
2. “A Nightmare Before Christmas”- 28.6%
Tim Burton’s “A Nightmare Before Christmas” is a holiday classic following the ventures of Jack Skellington, Halloweentown’s pumpkin king. Growing tied of scaring people, he seek for a new life leading him to stumble onto Christmastown, full of delightful emotions. Although he attempts to take control over Christmas, things quickly go horribly wrong.
3. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)”- 21.4%
Striving to steal Christmas, the Grinch (Jim Carrey) trys to do just so in effort to steal Christmas from the cheerful people of Whoville. This Dr. Seuss classic children’s tale is one of the top three commonly watched movies during the holiday season as it describes the Grinch’s ambitions to ruin Christmas however, it is not until he meets Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen) when his intentions change.
4. “Elf”- 7.1%
Mistakenly brought to the North Pole, Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) struggles with the differences between him and the other elves. Feeling as if he does not belong in the North Pole, he journeys to New York in hope to find his father, Walter Hobbs (James Caan). From facing a number of obstacles in New York, Buddy encounters disastrous outcomes from his father’s unwilling attempt to build a relationship.
5. “The Santa Clause”- 7.1%
On Christmas Eve, Scott (Tim Allen) unintentionally murders someone dressed as Santa Claus, causing him to become the new Santa Claus. Overwhelmed with the countless tasks he must complete to have an enjoyable Christmas, Scott has a lot of work before the big day arrives.
