Promposals of 2015

A few of the best ways seniors are dropping the big question for their last time.

Adam Campbell used Sprinkles cupcakes to ask Carlee DiNicola to prom.

Senior year is winding down fast, and as you finish up those last AP, IB and final exams the thought of summer as a graduate is crisper than ever. High school will forever be over. Finally.

Before seniors get too ahead of themselves thinking about the next chapter of their lives, there are still many exciting events to top off the past four years of high school.

Arguably one of the most exciting of all, and quite possibly the most stressful too, is the senior prom.

Like all high school dances there is a ridiculous amount of preparation and the pressure is on to make this the best last dance ever.

For the ladies there is the dress, the hair, the makeup, the shoes, the boutonniere, the bus and the patience to be asked.

For the guys there is the tux, the corsage, the bus and the courage to figure out how to ask.

This ask is not just any ask however. It is perhaps the biggest ask up to this point of their 18-year-old life. With respect to the ask’s importance, the means and way in which the asking is done is also quite grand.

Some SMCHS students have gone all out with creativity to ensure that their senior prom will be celebrated with that special someone.

Pony up!

Adam Campbell and Carlee DiNicola will both be attending Southern Methodist University next fall. Therefore, it is only appropriate for these two Dallas-bound friends to attend their senior prom together.

Campbell set up his ask by having one of DiNicola’s friends ask her to get coffee before school. She was definitely surprised to be asked at 6:30a.m., Campbell explained.

Campbell put together the perfect ask with a homemade sign.

“I spend about an hour and a half to make sure the sign and the pony I drew was perfect,” he said.

To further impress DiNicola, Campbell dressed to impress her love for fashion.

The idea of how to ask DiNicola came to Campbell because of their choice in college and DiNicola’s great taste in cupcakes.

“I knew that she really likes Sprinkles and I wanted to do something with SMU since we are both going to the same school so I put the two together,” Campbell said.

The obvious response to this ask was a “yes,” so Campbell and DiNicola will be ponying up to prom!

Bibbity bobbity boo…

Sticking with the Cinderella theme, Ethan Crocker went all-out in asking his girlfriend Nicole Demirbey. By all out, I mean a living animal, because what is more adorably memorable than a mouse!

“It also went well with the Cinderella theme,” Crocker said.

It was no surprise to Demirbey that Crocker asked her, but the present that came with her boyfriend’s promposal was not expected.

“She was definitely surprised,” Crocker said. “She couldn’t comprehend the fact that the mice were alive.”

Although Demirbey was shocked by the package that came with her prom ask, she was not as squeamish as Crocker expected.

“I asked her like this because honestly I thought she would freak out and it would be funny,” Crocker said. “But even though she didn’t they were still fun.”

Everyone got a hit out of this surprising promposal, even the Petco workers, Crocker explained.

Most of all, Demirbey loved the ask and will be joining Crocker for the Cinderella-themed dance. Sorry Demirbey, your new pet has to stay at home!

Hair and pots

Hairy men and ceramic pots may not sound like a very romantic way to catch a girl, but it was the perfect way for Jack Jennison to get Ally Carey to say yes. In fact Carey, a die-hard Hairy Potter fan, wouldn’t have wanted her senior prom asking to go any other way.

“I put on a fake beard, a wig and fake chest hair and I said do you want to go to prom with this hairy potter,” Jennison said. “I punned it out.”

This punny asking was done in fourth period MUN class just before the bell rang, the entire class got a kick out of Jennison’s humor.

“She was surprised but I think she knew I was asking her,” Jennison said.

Carey and Jennison are both very involved in ASB, so attending senior prom together, an ASB event, is a great way for these great friends to top off their high school involvement together.

Jennison will be shaving his excess hair off in order to look extra sharp for prom, and Carey will throw together a potion for a night to remember!

Top of the world

Jake Fisher did not settle with just a poster and some flowers, but instead orchestrated a hunt for his prom date. Anna Purkop was only able to say yes to Fisher after making her way to several different locations.

“I sent her on a scavenger hunt around different beaches in Laguna leaving hints until she found me at the Top of the World [hike],” Fisher said.

Purkop was very surprised when she came to her finally stop at this high point overlooking the beach to find Fisher there with flowers.

“I asked her like this because we both love to go to the beach together,” Fisher said.

To even further personalize this special ask, Fisher used inside jokes as the hints which eventually led Purkop to her finally destination.

“I was thinking about this idea and tweaking it for a couple of days,” Fisher said.

This extravaganza of a promposal took Fisher quite a bit of effort, but the “yes” was undoubtedly worth it.

Make you feel wanted

Kyle Broccardo’s way of asking his girlfriend Carlie Boschetti to senior prom sounds more like a verse from Romeo and Juliet than present day high school romance. With a speaker system, their song “Wanted” by Hunter Hayes, roses, a sign and a few rocks, Broccardo set up his perfect ask.

“I asked Carlie by throwing rocks at her window at 12:30 at night and when she looked out the window I was standing there,” Broccardo said.

Broccardo had no trouble thinking up his idea.

“I asked her like this because I have gone to her window late at night to cheer her up,” Broccardo said. “And the song ‘Wanted’ by Hunter Hayes has a deep meaning to us.”

It was no surprise to Boschetti that her boyfriend would be asking her to prom, but Broccardo did his best to make the night somewhat surprising and entirely memorable.

Broccardo took a very personal approach to his promposal and the couple will be attending prom together feeling absolutely wanted.
