Hungry for more Hunger Games novels? Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games saga, announced the release of a fifth book joining her most popular series. In this dystopian world, the premise follows Katniss Everdeen, an eighteen-year-old girl selected to compete in an annual brutal competition, or the Hunger Games. Readers fell in love with not just Katniss’ bravery, but her grit and her struggle against the oppressive Panem government. The Hunger Games takes place in a futuristic setting where survival is taken to a new level, a theme that continues in Collin’s latest novel.
Called Sunrise on the Reaping, the new book, a prequel, will follow the 50th Hunger Games, taking place 24 years before Katniss’s games. It will follow Haymitch, Katniss’ mentor, as he fights his way through his Hunger Games. Collins cites her inspiration for the book from David Hume’s idea of implicit submission. Hume’s idea explores the theory that government ruled by opinion and passion rather than by force. With such inspiration, readers are left wondering what creative liberties and turns Collins will make. Readers can preorder the book or purchase it on Amazon.
The set release date for Sunrise on the Reaping is March 18, 2025. Readers and Hunger Games fans eagerly anticipate its release. All previous books of the Hunger Games series have counterpart film adaptations. Lionsgate confirmed that Sunrise on the Reaping will also become a movie, directed by Francis Lawrence, who directed all previous Hunger Games movies. The movie is set to come out in November of 2026.
As The Hunger Games makes another return, many wonder: will this be the last book in the series? Collins has yet to confirm or deny this question. It is certain, however, that each book of this series she produces becomes a hit. Hopes are held high for Collins’ most recent release, and once March 18 comes, there will be no doubt a flurry of commentary, reactions, and predictions will storm the internet.
