
On January 5, 2025, the 82nd Golden Globes occurred on CBS and Paramount+. This year’s Golden Globe Awards was hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser and directed by Glenn Weiss. Glaser made history as the first solo female host at the Golden Globes, as well as being a nominee herself for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. Throughout social media, Glaser’s performance has been received far better than 2024’s host, Jo Koy. Glaser has been praised for her crafty and funny jokes.
The main character of this year’s Golden Globes was “Emilia Pérez”. The musical/thriller won the most awards of the films represented at this year’s Golden Globes, as well as containing the highest number of nominations. They were nominated for 10 awards and won four, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language. One of the stars, Zoe Saldana, won Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for her role in “Emilia Pérez”.
Another massive hit of the year was “Wicked”, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo. “Wicked” took home Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Erivo was nominated for Best Performance in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Grande was nominated for Best Supporting Performance in a Motion Picture.
As for TV, the hit Netflix show “Baby Reindeer”, which dominated the 2024 Emmy Awards, also managed to grab a couple Golden Globes. Jessica Gunning won Best Supporting Performance in a Series, Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role as Martha Scott. As a whole, “Baby Reindeer” won Best Television Series in the category Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television.
During the 82nd Golden Globes, many heartfelt speeches were given by winners. Demi Moore, who won Best Performance in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role as Elisabeth Sparkle in “The Substance”, gave an inspiring speech as an actress winning her first major acting award at 62 years old.
Now that the Golden Globes have occurred, fans and the media are rushing on to predict the 97th Academy Awards, or 2025 Oscars, nominations and winners. This show will be hosted by Conan O’Brien, taking place on March 2, 2025 at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
