An experience

Natalie Leon , Staff Writer

Din Tai Fung is a chain restaurant founded in Taiwan. In 1972, Din Tai Fung’s Xiao Long Bao became super popular, and soon began to expand. Not only do they boast just the Xiao Long Bao but also have many other options on their expansive menu. Din Tai Fung’s branches have spread around the world along with its business philosophy.

The Experience

Din Tai Fung’s cuisine is harmony in a meal. Utilizing the freshest ingredients paired with a relish for simple cooking styles, recipe selection is never too rich for anyone. Their menu has a wide variety of options. From 10:30AM to 9:30PM they serve everything on their menu, hoping to touch the palettes of others. Their appetizers consist of the soy noodle salad, sweet and sour pork baby back ribs, hot and sour soup. However, two appetizers always catch people eyes.

Their garlic green beans and classic cucumber salad are the most popular picks, and always the best way to start your meal. The dish that they are known for is their famous soup dumplings, or Xiao long bao as they are called in Mandarin Chinese. Delivered in a steamy basket made of bamboos, the paper-thin dumplings enclose marinated juice from tender minced pork. Take a bite and its soup bursts like a flavorful flood, exploding against your taste buds with a series of nuances you most never tasted before.

The best times

Din Tai Fung has locations in Oregon, California, Washington, and Nevada. In every state, Din Tai Fung is a must need experience. As you can’t reserve a table at a Din Tai Fung restaurant, you simply must wait, even sometimes for hours throughout the peak times of the day. However, this is all part of the experience. Spend the time by ticking boxes in the small menu cards and have your set of food served almost immediately after you get the table. Timing and efficiency have always been key to the Din Tai Fung success story.

The Din Tai Fung experience is not about tasting something new. It’s about reinventing the art of cooking, bringing world class food to millions of people. Traditional, yet modern. Simple, yet complex. Cheap, yet rich. An experience that will continue to surprise for generations to come, nurturing its modern legend. Some things never get old. Din Tai Fung is one of them.
