As the 2017-2018 school year comes to a close, Lenovo screens switch from classwork to summer clothes shopping and excitement for warmer weather hits a high. But in the last remaining weeks of studiousness there are still plenty of activities dotting the SMCHS master calendar.

On the academic side of things, spring is the unofficial harbinger of AP/IB testing and semester finals. IB exams kicked off April 27 and AP testing starts in early May. Senior final exams will begin May 21, earlier than all other grade levels.

“I’ve had to take all my finals early for my AP and IB classes, so I’m honestly really exhausted [already],” said junior Katelyn Murphy, who is taking AP Biology and IB Spanish. “I just want to get these tests over with and get to summer.”

The Performing Arts Department has a host of upcoming events for Talon Theatre, choir and orchestra, beginning with the annual Pops Concert this Thursday, May 3. The concert will stretch across two nights featuring Choir & Handbells, and a third for Instrumental Music. Performing arts showcasing kicks off with Musical Theatre on May 8, followed by Choir Senior Showcase the week after. The Spring Dance Concert will begin May 9.

“I’m really looking forward to the Pops Concert!” said junior Emily Shiraishi, who has participated in Women’s Choir since her sophomore year. “I feel like it’s one of the events that allows the choir to really showcase their talents.”

As for other activities, the long-awaited Mothers Club Fashion Show will take place on Sunday, May 6, followed by the Marian Mass on May 10. XLT Night is at the tail end of May on the 29th.

For students with a bad case of senioritis, the wait is almost over. Senior Awards Night is coming up on May 17, but the real party begins with Prom on the 24th. Graduation isn’t until June 1, giving seniors an entire week to relax at home and recover from the caffeine overdose brought on by finals. Finally, for the last activity that the Class of 2018 will ever engage in together, Grad Night will take place later in the evening following graduation.

Here is the schedule for May 2018.

“I’m most excited for Prom,” said senior Pua Jung. “It’s going to be a night full of memories with my friends before we all leave for college.”

To those stressing over final grades, take some time to sit back and remember that the pain and suffering of test-taking is almost at its end (at least for the three months of summer). For the Eagles soaring into college this fall, au revoir, and congratulations on enduring all four years at one of the top private high schools in the country.
