Little Miss Sunshine – Scifres’ flashes a smile with her polished nails.

Misplaced, again. Things are so easy to lose: coins in your couch, phones in the bathroom stall, even the pen in your own hand. Senior Sheridan Scifres tends to loose little things just like the rest of us, but she has found an accessory to reduce her loses.

“I do my nails because it’s an accessory I won’t lose,” Scifres said. “It is something I can always have with me, and I can’t lose because it’s stuck onto me.”

Since freshman year, Scifres has used her nails as her creative outlet. Scifres spends roughly two hours a week on her nails to create her little works of big art.

“I have a whole drawer dedicated to nail polish and in my room and on my door I have a huge shelf for polish,” she said. “I have a row of Essie, a row of Opi… just different brands in each row.”

So how does she do it? How does Scifres create little pineapples on each nail that take you back to Hawaii or draw every varsity girl cross country runner onto her nails for a race? The answer is really, really small paint brushes. Scifres does not stuff her drawers with nail pens, rather she chooses to keep it classy by using paintbrushes. Also, she’s basically ambidextrous so both her hands turn out great.

It’s the Scifres rule to change her nail polish every week. If she does pink one week she cannot repeat the same shade of pink the next week. You will always see Scifres nails with radically different designs on a weekly basis according to her mood because she likes to switch it up.

“I’ll put ornaments on my nails for Christmas,” she said. “I might do a little ocean scene if it’s summer. The season or what I see online inspires me.”

Scifres nails her nail game every week. Already a nail expert, Scifres plans to go into the health industry partially because her curiosity in nail care sparked an interest to delve into the health world.

“I’ve noticed a lot of girls nowadays are getting fake nails and gels,” she said. “People keep complaining that their nails are getting thinner and it’s because you actually take off a layer of your nails when you take falsies and gels off. For good nails don’t do gels and fake nails, moisturize, file and push your cuticles back.”

Though she has never worked at a nail salon, she is already making herself a name in the beauty world.

“People ask me to do their nails,” Scifres said. “When we went up to Colorado for cross country, I painted a lot of the girls’ nails and they turned out really cute. I’ve never done nails for anyone going to a dance, but I will if someone asks.”

How to: 1. File nails, buffer the nails because it takes away imperfections on nail bed. 2. Apply base coat because it protects nails from getting color stained and creates a smooth surface for your first coat.
